Ive been driving a 206 1.4 hdi diesel for three years now, it let me down once in that time with a cooling problem,it was fixed under warranty. The car has given me between 500 and 550 miles per full tank, this has never altered. l hope this has been of some help.

if u r used to driving japanese vehicles, u will discover that peugeot engines too ''corse'' to ur liking. the automatic transmission is lagging & does not perform as published. older 206cc from manufacture year 2001 always have the folding roof problems & the local agent(singapore) charges exhorbitant for their services, although newer cars r said to have solved this technical problem. the rear seats r cramped & not enuff for an adult to sit comfortably. exterior looks r begining to appear ageing now, so it would turn as much heads as it would 2 years back. in short, its not worth the dollars on such an underperforming car. the toyota mr-s is a much better choice!

l worked in a Peugeot garage for many years. They are regarded as being generally very reliable cars.

l have a 206 (model 2002) type-I l & drive it for more than a year. It is a good automobile & l am satisfied with it. I've ridden over country with it without any serious problem, nor its engine broke up! However, it has a very bad blind spot. Its front columns block full-view of driver & even disappear a big object when it is near to car. Also l am worried if ur country support its maintenance, in USA for example it is uncommon.
If u r going to buy something like that, you'd better to buy 307 HDi (diesel) or better, a GTi Golf or Eos (from Volkswagen) with 20%~30% additional cost. If ur budget is limited to 206, try its type-V l (automatic gear-box) with 1400cc displacement.

You say u r in the market for a new car? Well l am unsure if u r aware that Peugeot r replacing the 206 with the 207 (It looks almost similar!) so the regular hatchbacks r going to be sold new & very cheap. Great bargin, but bad news for CC buyers, as the replacement CC is not due for at least another year, the exsisting 206 CC will still be expensive until the next model arrives. So if u can hold out for a year at least, then do so.

You mention nothing of what u need the car for. Fun? Commuting? Posing? If u need the back seats, then l suggest a 307 CC, similar styling, more spacious & can seat 4 Adults in reasonable comfort. A 206 struggles with 2 Adults & a chiuawua dog. If u live in Europe than u will have no problems with Garages. If u live outside of Europe u r running a serious risk where if anything does go wrong, u could have ur pants pulled down over repair costs & time it will take. Up to you.

With regards to relaibility. Peugeot r amazing, start every time, & r easy to work on. But, (and it is a big BUT) u need to look after them, Change the oil every 8,000-10,000 miles, full service every 10,000-12,000 miles & the roof is proving an issue, it has a small motor to lift the roof & it burn is out through over usage. Be Careful. l am not aware of leaky roofs as such but if the roof breaks down mid way up & it rains, Problems occour. Enginewise 1.6 CC is cheap, powerful enough around town, & reasonably economical. 2.0 CC is great for motorways, plenty of power, And not any thirstier than a Ford Mondeo 1.8 16v. The 2.0 HDi is great, its got plenty of low rev torque, & good economy. It is a bit thrashy at 70mph, but u will never hear it with the roof down anyway.

Good Luck with ur purchase regardless of the car.

Being in the industry l have to recommend that models coming to the end of their life (like the 206) r a good buy. Cars r continually improved throughout their model run. All right hand drive & some left hand drive 206 is r produced in the UK (all cc is r french), the quality standards r very high (better than the French built cars). The best engine is the 1.6 HD l diesel, its a new engine producing 110 horse power & does 60mpg ( l have a new one). You should get a good deal now the 207 is coming out.
