l own a Peugeot 106.Recentlythe shocks were making squishing noises.l changed them at the garage, and since having the car back. The front of the car looks a lot higher than it was before it went into the garage.

My car has been lowered 20 mm before the chnage of shocks.l questioned the garage, and they say. Since they are new shocks the car will eventually settle back down to the correct ride height after a few days.Is this correct?
In response to Chrisbowe.Yeah the car was originally lowered with a cheap set of £50 lowering springs. So, does it take a few days for the shocks to settle. The guy at the garage said he used my own set of springs, and only changed the shocks, but the car at the front is notably higher. Can you really get short shocks, and long shocks?

If you do not trust your mechanic, take your Frenchie to another garage!

no, its not right, the springs shouldnt settle down at all, the height is THe height !! Most probably the wrong shockers fitted !! (by a mech)

aye, shock absorbers do take a few days to settle, but possibly, when the car was lowered, shorter shocks were used with the springs. This is usually the case if the owner has bothered to do more than fit a set of crappy £50 quid lowering springs. See how it goes after a few laps of the town centre woundabouts, but if it is still higher, ya might need some spax/gmax shortened dampers ;)

in response, yeah u can. most lowering kits (matched shocks & spring kits) come with shortened dampers/shocks to match the lowered springs, wheras if u just use lowered & stiffened springs to drop the ride height, it will bugger the shocks before too long, cos the pistons r hitting the stops too soon. l remember my mates 306 taking a day to settle down a bit after fitting new shortened shocks & springs. l remember every time l jacked my car up (it was on coilovers) to work on it, it used to take a few miles to settle to original ride height.

The dampers (wrongly called shock absorbers) do not affect ride height, it is the springs that set the ride height.
The dampers stop the bouncing that occurs in the springs when you drive over a bump or hole, if the springs were changed giving you a 20 mm lower ride height and now the car is higher it is nothing to do with the dampers.

Did the garage change the springs at the same time? If they did you can bet they charged you for it.
