l have a peugeot 106 automatic and today whilst driving, all of a sudden it started knocking throught the body of the car. Then after about 5 or 6 miles the steering wheel started shaking even at low speeds, and then after a further 3 miles a squeaking sound began and it seems to be getting worse, the knocking is not constant it is when l release the accelerator that it knocks.
When car is idle there appears to be nothing wrong, it is just when driving.
l have new breaks, new back box and rest of the exhaust is sound.
l have not managed to find any help on line so any links would be appreciated.

check your wheel nuts they could be loose

CV joints/drive shaft couplings

Check wheel nuts and bearings then steering and wheel balance . Do not mess about you need a garage

Sounds like drive shaft or cv joints have gone.Could also be a problem with auto box.

it sound like you have unbalanced a wheel or hit a hole or something,
the tyres and wheels are balanced when new with lead weights on the rims to make them run smooth if you hit a curb they fall off causing the stearing wheel to wobble,

well its hard to diagnose a problem like that online,plus some of the info contradicts itself. l would start by looking at the front end steering linkage,and control arms

it could be a drive shaft problem, or it could be something to do with the suspension arms. but by the sound of it, its not as serious as the suspension.

See, my sisters 106 diesel non-auto does that too, l thought it was her bearings but she was told it was her gear box. Is it worse when turning corners? I'd say it seems to be with the 'gears' l see others have called it the auto box, is that correct? l am a girl, l dont know much about cars :P
