there is a noise coming from the rear of my car, it seems to be a scraping noise, metal on metal. Im pretty sure its not the brakes as was all done in the mot last week.

Has only just came, after owning the vehcile for two months.

sorry about the lack of detail, but l would like to know if there is any common problems which can creat this noise.

could be the wheelbearings jack the back wheel up and spin it see if you can hear the Noise!

Sometimes a rear brake SHOE, even if it is brand new, can come loose from its metal backing. Then it drops down an inch or so.
It is not dangerous, but u loose braking power & will hear the loose shoe scraping. Visually check that side again, please.

In addition to the answer before mine, which suggests ''wheel bearings there is also a ''wheel race''. The wheel race is found on the inside of the brake drum, & is sometimes damamged when aggressively pulling off the brake drum. l have made that mistake when forcing the drum off. (THIS IS A GUESS for ur problem)

There r also ''suspension trailing arm bearings''. These r found on the inside of ur rear axle. Changing these requires a lot of time & special tools. Even l have never attempted it myself. (NOTE: these bearings r not under constant rolling, thus no scraping noises).

Your 205 was built between 1983 & 1998. It could be ready for any one of these bearing replacements.
