Hi,
l have owned my 307 HDl Rapier 2.0 for 13months now, bought with 28000 miles on 53 plate. The condition of vehicles was excellent and had full service history, evidence suggests the fact the car was well looked after by former company owner.Since purchase l have done 10000 miles and it has now broken down, l am quoted £1100 by main dealer for repair. After trawling the web l have found many other 307 owners have suffered same fate, is this acceptable for a low mileage near new car? Hi, many thanks for your considered response.
l was driving the car last thursday when the ESP warning light (electric stability programme) flashed and a beep was issued. The (diesel) engine then promptly slowed and the car stalled, causing the brakes and power steering to lose power.l had swerve across a junction as l could not stop - did not try handbrake...
After calling AA out and having Peugeot ''specialist'' look at the vehicle it has been determined that the ''TCC sensor'' was hit by debris from a fragmenting clutch - without opening up the clutch. They have advised that the flywheel may well be the cause but can not confirm untill opening up the clutch/{or whatever it is you open?}.
My concern is not so much the fault, but whether so many PUG customers should be forced to payout for such a common fault which has not been subject to any recall.Seems the componentry or design is substandard and l am concerned if fixed this may well happen again in another ~30000 miles.

Acceptable? Hardly. Normal? Yes.

38,000 miles is 61,000 kilometers. l think even with hard driving, too fast acceleration, too soon downshifting, & driving with a slipping clutch for too long..even then it should last 100,000 km = 60,000 miles.
What actually is wrong with the flywheel? Is it bluish in colour, indicating it became too hot, too long, & is no longer perfectly flat? If not, do not replace it.
Did a spring in the clutch driven plate turn sideways? And jammed itself against the flywheel, scratching it deeply? And ur gearbox is stuck in one gear, unable to dissengage the clutch now, & shift gears?
This is the result of a bad Clutch driven plate. And not the fault of a Peugeot 306, or the previous or current owner. It can happen to a BMW or Mercedes, or ANY make.
Remember, only the complainers with this problem will write about it on the web. 95% of happy people do not write anything about their car.
DON'T HAVE ur car repaired by Peugeot, & save yourself hundreds of Pounds. Go to an independant repair shop. That is my advice. Please write back & describe the exact ''failure'' of ur clutch & flywheel.thanks.
Edited Later: YIKES!! That is a new one on me! If l were you, l would have the car towed home, or to a local garage, & remove the gearbox to visually inspect all. It has to be repaired, even if u decide to sell it again, right? And then u will know for sure what has been damaged. 1100 pounds will not be the price if u stay away from genuine Peugeot parts, & get a written estimate beforehand.
WOW, l really like the answer below mine (Mr. Lowkey) & will vote for it when/if the time comes...Trevor.

The problem lies with the flywheel. As ur car is the Rapier model, it will have a 110bhp engine not the standard 90bhp which my car has. Because of this extra horsepower, Peugeot in their wisdom decided to replace the flywheel to a dampered system to compensate for the added power, & have had nothing but problems since. From Peugeot the flywheel will cost around £500, the clutch around £150 & then items such as oil & seals, then about the same for labour! When l chose my car, l specificaly bought the 90bhp to avoid the extra cost the system might cause! I've seen some customers travel just 15-20000 miles before it arises. l am afraid Peugeot will only pay half the costs & that is only if it is a couple of hundred miles out of its warranty.
