The Peugeot is a good choice. Insist on full service history.

Other choices are Vectra and Mondeo, both pretty good cars.

l drive the older peugeot estates l bought a 305 at 125,000 miles and sold it at 175,000 and it was still going strong. l have had a 405 for 2 years and it gets hammered as a work vehicle and it just goes on and on and very good on fuel.

Well back in the day volvo is were pretty good but they r a bit old fashioned, then there is the peugeot it is a very nice car but l preffer the citroen, they r very confortable, l have even seen a C5 for around the 3k mark they have high mileage but if they have been looked after it should not be something to worry about. Or even a xsara estate is not bad. The astra estate is just a bit bland but a good all rounder. Something with a bit of class is MERCEDES-BENZ C250 TD Estate Sport, very nice, good prices as well. However l am sure somthing like:

The Peugeot 306 HD l estate is a honest, reliable economic car. You can buy a 51 reg for about £2900.
Although you could consider Ford Mondeo 2.0 litre TD Zetec estate. You can get a 51 reg for about £2800.
Or SAAB 9-5 TiD for about £3000 to £5000 depending on how many miles its done.

Depends what u want functionality just as a workhorse , or combined comfort also.
l have a Peugot 306 saloon ok around town but very chlostraphobic on a run ove 100 miles .
Previously l had a Vovo 940 2.5 turbo diesel estate it had space comfort reliability , & economy was better than the car l have now . l used to get 30mpg in town & 50mpg on motorway type journey cruising at 70mph in 5th no problems.
She clocked up 202.000 miles & the new owner is still running about in her now ..it never failed an
M OT in 9years , which is more that can be said for the car l have now , l wished l had never gotten rid of my Volvo.
£3000 should get u a very nice diesel V70 with all the trimings from autotrader no probs , but get a pre 2000 as they where volvo & not Ford . ... Regards Vortash
