Hi. I've got a peugeot 406 TD, 1997, 145k on clock. standing, it blows out fresh air from exhaust. on low revs on acceleration, or generally accelerating when turbo kicks in, belches black smoke. i've changed air filter, fuel filter, oil filter. flushed the oil on oil filter change, changed oil twice and put injector fuel additive in fuel tank. Still no joy. Do not know if electronically related, but rev counter sometimes kicks in on start up and stays on until l turn key off again. when revs working, black smoke does not seem as bad?! might be coincidence. would really appreciate advice on anybody that has had exact same problem or mechanic please?! cheers! CHECK YOUR COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR,AIR TEMP SENSOR OR YOUR OXYGEN SENSOR

with 145k on clock maybe time for new turbo? l had a cavailer 1.7td with 175k on clock and was heavily tuned and that was bad with black smoke so l put bigger turbo on and all was fine

l used to work for a peugeot dealership and for my company car elected for a TD. Trust me, they all do it from new, smoke when the turbo kicks in.

l am not a particularly fast driver but if l got a young driver all over my back like a rash l would kick the pedal to the floor knowing that l would leave him behind in a cloud of smoke.

the black smoke means the one of the gasgest is letting in air, so when you start to drive the car is sucking in the air and it is mixing with the oil in the engine causing the oil to fire in the engine and burn, causing the Black smoke,
