Got a 1999 Peugeot 206 1.4 three weeks ago. Last night it just cut out on me at traffic lights, and coming home tonight it cut out when l was going around a corner. No power steering so potentially very dangerous. Luckily it was late at night.
The car is under warranty so I will be taking it back in, but I'd like some ideas what could be causing it. Cheers.

Take it back to where you bought it from ! u should have some kind of warranty with it !!

'' l am adding this thread purely as help to anyone who owns a Peugeot 206 which has or is behaving in, what can only be described as, a dangerous manner.

Our case begun about 6 months ago where, for no apparent reason, our 206 started to inexplicably lose power whilst travelling at speed, then immediatley pick up again, causing a jerking motion. Sometimes it would not pick up again at all & grind to a halt. This was particularly dangerous when happening in the fast lane of a motorway. Other problems would include massive over revving whilst at a standstill, general stalling & jerking in slow moving traffic. Driving became very stressful (not to mention a bit of a lottery as to whether u made it home in one piece).

The thing is that when it was taken in to the dealer, they hooked it up to the computer which would show absolutely no fault at all, leading to a speculative diagnosis on each visit which invariably cost money (since the car was way out of warranty) for parts changed, which turned out to be unecessary.

To cut a long story short, our car gave out a crack on the way home from work one night, & the following mornign would not start. It turned out that the coil pack had blown & spiked the ecu (the engines central computer). We had it towed to an alternative Peugeot dealer who is service manager told us it would cost about £1100 to fix. He seemed aware of this problem & agreed to fit a non Peugeot ecu if we bought one (for about half the price), which we did & all was & is now well.

Peugeot as a manufacturer still deny to this day that there is an inherent problem with their ecu is & this has lead to an online petition for 206 owners to lsit their cases - the results of which can be seen here - Peugeot 206 Online Petition

If u know of anyone with this problem or you've suffered yourself, take the time, as l did, to add ur case to the growing list. Looking at some people is cases, it is only a matter of time before someone is killed.

Dude.it is a P.O.S. Peugeot engineered and built by drunken, socialist French. What do you expect?

I've just gt rid of my peugeot 206 as it was doing this. For no reason it would just cut out very annoying and slightly scary when you have just pulled out of a junction and sitting in the middle of the road with a car comign towards you!!

l took it into the peugeot garage numerous times and they kept saying that the computer has not found any fault not at all helpful when the car continues to cut out!

l had a car that did this, l kept taking it back to the dealership only to be told that they had test drove it without any problems & the diagnostic showed up nothing.
l took it back about 4 times. They provided me with a courtesy car on the 4th visit. They eventually sorted it out when the manager got involved & l told them that unless the fault was resolved that day l was not giving the courtesy car back. The courtesy car was booked out for the following day so they had no choice. l think they changed all the filters & l never had the problem again. This may not be the problem with ur car but insist that they sort it before ur warranty expires.
