Hi Trevor, I am waiting for your input after your visit to Peugeot in Gent. Did you have any info for me? Other helpers suggest it may be a wiring loom problem, l just wanted to see what you came up with. Cheers

l feel like we r neighbours! Tomorrow, Thursday March 29, l will visit ''Renee''. He is a retired Peugeot mechanic with 30 years experience. l will ask him about the 306 & the 406 & the remotes, & the programming.
l have the day off work, myself, so l will keep my promise.
Til Friday?

Dear Sir,
l can tell this is a serious problem for you. l am trying my best to help you.
l am translating now from the Dutch version of the Peugeot 406 owner’s manual. MAYBE, maybe this will help you. If not, well, l tried.

IF ONE OF the front doors is opened, the central locking will not work.

Remote control:
1. Press on button A (big button, Peugeot symbol) to lock or unlock the doors or rear hatch.
2. The locking is acknowledged by a 2 second flashing of the turn signals.
3. Press once again on the button, to unlock the doors & rear hatch; the turn signals blink fast to acknowledge.
4. The red lamp B (small lamp near the Peugeot symbol) blinks always with the pressing of button A & indicates that the battery is sufficiently charged.

NOTICE: DON’T press the button of the remote outside the reach of the car. This can make the system out of order. In this case the remote control must be reprogrammed.

PROGRAMMING THE REMOTE CONTROL:
Press on button A until the little lampe B blinks.
Let the button loose, the little lamp burns constantly.
Press 2 times on the button A in the immediate vicinity of the auto.
Turn the ignition contact ON for at least 3 seconds.
Turn the ignition contact OFF.

The remote control will work again now. Seek advice from a Peugeot Service garage if the problem still exists.
If the battery is replaced & the remote doesn’t work, again reprogramme the system.
