problems with the Peugeot 405

There is not enough time or space here to list the problems associated with Peugeot automobiles.

l have one 405, a station wagon. And my father in law has 6. it is his hobby.

The station wagon is rear axle is not very strong. Heavy loads will affect the wheel alignment very often AND wears out all the rubber bushings, the MOT will see this weakness every time.. Only a replacement of the axle can help this.
The fuel injection is very sensitive. You need a BOSCH computer to find & correct problems. Not a job for the do-it-self guy.
Sunroofs.. THEY ALL LEAK. bad rubber, & shrinking rubber seals over the years. Remember this is a car from the late 80 is early 90's. Already 15 years old or more?

Diesel? adjusting the intake & exhaust valves is a complicated job of replacing shims of varying thicknesses. You need hours & much experience.

Clutch replacement. Everything has to come up out of the engine compartment, & some things must be lowered. Only one millimeter to spare sometimes. Gotta drain gear oil as well.
You need small hands & fingers to reach some screws. Very frustrating car to work on. Not much room in the engine compartment.
Parts replacements: Peugeot knows that when u need parts for a car that is 15 years old, they have u by the b**ls. You will pay a lot for a little rubber piece = 5 pounds. And just try to get a glass lens for ur headlight. they make u buy the whole headlight. Crooks.
