l went out this morning to move my car, No problems, Started 1st time, When l came to move it back it was dead as a dodo! The display lights up but the auto diagnostics warning light stays on and the car wont start at all, Can anyone help? Im stumped!!
In reply to wingin, Its completely dead but l dont think its the battery, The dash lights up and the remote central locking is working, When l try to start it a noise comes from a small box on the left hand side of the engine, It has bosch written on it but ive no idea what it is, Looked in the handbook and that was no help
In response to Martin, Its a 1.8 petrol 16v, Its definitely not the battery, The lights dont dim at all when im trying to start it, l have been told it might be the head gasket, But it wasnt overheating or losing water so l dont know, Got a mechanic coming to look at it on Tuesday

When u say it wont start, do u mean it is not turning over or it is not firing? If it is not turning over then ur starter motor is fried, but if it is not firing that could be any number of things, fuel pump, injectors, igntion system, Engine Control Unit, Immobiliser (if its a keypad one, these r notoriously crap on PSA vehicles). You just need to systematically go over the car until u find out which one is the problem, just remember an engine needs 3 things to fire, fuel, ignition & a sealed chamber in which to ignite. Hard to tell without seeing it, if u r not mechanically proficient, have a mechanic come out to it, he should work it out.

the box you describe sounds like a starter relay, and the trouble you describe sounds like a starter problem, check the connections on the relay, the starter motor and the starter solenoid.check also the earth connections from the battery to the engine

go for simple checks first. battery terminals, try a jump start with another car and jump-leads,
a faulty battery will die without warning

Its French!! Alas, did you know that Peugeot used to be really good, the 404s ran forever. The latest stuff always is at the bottom of JD powers, warranty direct tables etc with its brothers from Citroen and Renault. Why do people buy these things? They pulled out of the states because they just would not sell!

The negative battery terminal may not be fastened to the negative battery lead wire..tight enough. A loose connection will allow all the accesories to work, but u need a big AMPERAGE draw to start that big engine.

If u can wiggle it at all. it is not tight. THE BLACK wire & the negative symbol is on the battery.. try checking this, please.

AHHH yes. & see if there is still water in ur battery. Even the maintenance free batteries can often need distilled water after 3 years. Can u pry the lid off & look? NO lead plates should be high & dry.

Hi
try disconecting the battery for about five minutes then reconnect and try. remember to connect the live terminal first so that you do not damage the ECM.This should reset your electronic system.

is there a water leak throught the back lights into the spare wheel well
if its full of water its probebly the plug under the drivers footwell corroded as normal
2001-2005 gave these problems
petrol or diesel
only the new spec with the split rear lights.
give this a try and let me know#]

If your car is an automatic, check the gear lever is in either on N or P position. If the auto diagnostic light is on, then it must be the CPU. Like what Jonathan said remove the battery leads and fix it back after 5 minutes.
