l drive a P reg Peugeot 306. In all gears for some reason no power seems to be getting through-the more gas l put on the more the car revs without actually increasing in speed. The feeling is the same as if you were to drive with the clutch engaged a little. What is the most likely cause?

Thanks for theso far-It is not fuel injection.

YOUR TRANS IS GOING

If it is fuel injected, you may have a clogged injector or injectors. Check your fuel rail and clean it out.

It might also be that your fuel pump is failing.

Whatever it is, it has something to do with your fuel delivery system to be sure.

If all of this checks out. then (as the other poster said) your transmission may be taking a dump on you.

Sounds like you have a transmission problem to me

Well this could be a few things.
You might have a failing Transmission, a plugged Fuel Filter,- or the Fuel pump may be failing-like the pressure or volume of gas it is sending to the engine.

Best thing to do is get it over to a trusted mechanic and have them run a Computer Diagnostic and take it from there.

l think the clutch is worn out.
You should smell something burning about this time, when u try to accelerate. And u can not accelerate.
Be careful. things r getting hot & u do not realize it. The ''flywheel'' will get hot because there is minimal friction, & a lot of slipping against the thin clutch plate.

Your shiny-silver flywheel will turn blueish with heat distortion, & may not hold its perfectly flat surface. THAT is an expensive repair, my friend.

Have the clutch spring, clutch driven plate, & throw-out (release) bearing replaced now. Or get a book & do it yourself. Thank you.

(working 16 years on personally owned Peugeots from 1971 models to '93 models. l have NEVER HAD a bad transmission. NEVER.) you, sir, have a clutch problem.

Here is what your problem. you might have very low engine compression. The best way you need to have your engine to be rebilt.

Your exhaust is blocked.
And your car is really, really bad.
