hi ive just got a y reg peugeot 206 auto but its buggin me now!theres this constant gas noise that comes from the left hand front side of the car . the noise stops when l touch the brake but when l release the brake it starts up again. its really loud noise tho and is drivin me nuts!!

is this noise normal? im a woman an not very smart about cars!

possibly needs new brake pads and disks. take it to a garage. my 206 needed new disks after 40k miles.

dont take it to a peugeot garage though, much too expensive.

it could be a leaky servo unit , or a split breather hose .

take it to quick fit they will check the brakes for free

It sounds as though you have a brake problem, possibly worn pads, or possibly just needing a bit of grease on the pad backs.

Have the front brakes checked out.

It sounds like u may have a broken strut link.
It could just be bad brake pads.

Ugh. Just be thankful it still runs -- which wo not be for long.

l have a y reg peugeot 206 too but mine doesn not make that noise. my brakes made a noise everytime l pressed them, took it to a garage who said they were fine but apparently the last time l had them changed - they were replaced with old brake pads.

l agree with everyone that u should have the pads checked, & the ability of the caliper piston to squeeze hard enough. Maybe it is only loosely gripping the pads.
There is only ONE gas, & that is a vacuum hose that helps ur power assisted brakes. When u step on the brake pedal, a vacuum is formed inside the brake ''booster & this vacuum helps pull the pedal down firmly. When u release the pedal, there is no vacuum needed.
The vacuum hose is about 1 inch thick & often has a braided cloth surface. If it is rubbing against another hose, it can wear a hole in the hose over 3 or 4 years.

However, on a right hand drive Peugeot, is that 12 inch round cannister = brake booster on the right side of the car???

If it stops when the brakes are applied it wont be disks or pads. More likely to be a master cylinder or a vacum/servo problem. Be carful driving it and let a garage take a quick look.
