symbol of battery at the dashboard lights up normal and goes out when engine is running.the alternator is good..but its not charging the battery..

Then change it. It will be fooked.

have your battery checked,if it is o.k check for loose wires on alternator if o.k get garage to check it

Check the water in ur battery. Even if u have a ''no maintenance battery they still lose water. Pry the plastic cover off the water cells & check. Distilled water should always cover the lead plates in each cell. Otherwise it will never hold a charge. Never.
If ur battery is 5 years old, hmmm it could be time for a new one anyway.
Finally, check for corrosion on the battery terminals, & a very tight connection of ur negative ground wire.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE should u disconnect the battery while the car is running. 30 years ago, this used to be a 'test' for a good alternator, but nowadays, this burns out the alternator diodes.

ATTENTION!!!!
If you have to disconnect the battery remove the key from the ignition and close the door wait at least 3 minutes before you remove any of the leads, if you don`t do this you will damage the cars ECU which will cost ££££. This goes with any newish Peugeot.

you can ask your local car breaker for a second hand one,alternitively ask him for a number to get a reconditioned one and part exchange your old one.both these operitives will fit them for a small fee,its a lot cheaper than a new part

Hi, maybe thats whats wrong with my car then because sometimes it can taken ages to start the car and mechanics have told me that its not the battery itself or the starter either.

Sometimes the leads on the battery itself get so corroded that the alternator, while still performing normally, can not put enough voltage through the crud to actually charge the battery properly. Clean the battery & the cables then check voltage with a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) right off the positive & negative cables at the battery. It should (well, at least most every other car in the world anyway) read close to 14 volts when charging. Of course this IS a Peugeot -- the car company famous for junk electrics, so anything could be possible.
