Is this a good deal or rip off?

Its in good condition and has Tax and Mot plus electric windows, sunroof etc but some dents, paint chips and some lock damage on the passenger door.l plan on getting all this fixed sometime next month.

I am desperate for a little runabout and am tempted to buy it but my other half says he would not give them £200 for it and its a rip off.l beat them down from £450 for it but they wo not go any lower.

What do you think?Its a private sale.
My other half is a mechanic and he is checked it over and says it seems OK, but will need 2 new tyres before the next MOT (Feb next year).It will probably need £100-£200 of work done to replace the locks, get rid of a small dent etc but l can do that over the next month.I am stuck without a car right now with a small baby and in a rural area so just wanna get my hands on something.

I've looked at a few others but they all seem to be utter rip offs.
Actually my other half says it only needs about £50-£100 of work done.

It seems too good to be true! Theres probably a hidden problem which will cost loads.

Make sure all electrics work..window.. roof..lights etc.
lock damage will fail the MOT.

That sounds good, personally l do not like electric anything but at that price you can afford to throw the car away in a years time.

l bought my wife one 2 yrs ago, it was her fist car after passing her test, it lasted her a year untill she got her full road sense, then l bought her a better car, l paid £250 reduced from £325, i`d say you are paying too much, but its hard to tell without seeing the car..the most important thing is, is it mechanically sound.

its not a bad price, but i'd have to ensure that its got a new mot, lock damage could mean attempted twok, and therefore possible damage to the steering or ignition system, from experience your better of paying more for a better car then paying for new bits all the time, and if tghe other half says do not buy it and it needs work doing or breaks down on you, you just know you wont live it down.

its about its worth at tops! if its mechanically sound, then its well worth it, if you sell it a year down the line, you would get at least half your dough back so in that regards £175 for a motor is not a bad go, (think of it like that)! hope that helps, paulie m

Ugh! Do not they sell Toyotas or Hondas over there? l suppose for that amount you can not go very wrong. At least when it falls apart you wo not lose a ton of cash.

sounds about right small runabouts are getting a bit more exspensive to buy because of fuel and tax the peugeot 106 is a great little car easy to get bits as parts off citroen fit also good on fuel and you can park them quite easily. some of the best little cars have a dent or scrape . if you like you go for it you have to drive it.
