Hi. Ive just had my peugeot 306 serviced and i've noticed a light has come on next to my speedo. its an orange light with a circular symbol, with a curved line on each side. l cant seem to find out what this light is, but it will sometimes go off, then come back on when l break firmly. Can anybody help?? thankyou

Is it your handbrake light? Maybe they adjusted it. Or it may mean your brake fluid level is low.

Yep, your brakes need replaced. A service only consists of spark plugs, oil change/filter air filter, so there would be no reason for them to look at your wheels. Get your break pads/discs checked, and also check brake fluid levels.

In the unlikely event that your brakes are ok, get your wiring checked on your dash.

is normally the hand brake .try releasing it when it comes on?.. if it isnot the hand brake you will need to fill up your brake fluid

You say that you have had it serviced then depending on the size of service you have had then the brakes to some degree should have been inspected. Small service visual inspection .
Big service definitely wheels and drums of to have a good look at the pads/disks/shoes/cylinders/cables and condition and level of brake fluid.

This is the brake pad warning light. Either the pads r very low (likely as the light comes on when u brake hard) or one of the wires is fouling something (possibly the disc or caliper). Another less likely reason is if cheap & nasty brake pads have been fitted the light can come on when u brake hard due to excessive amounts of metal filings in the pad material. Pressing the pad into the disc can complete the warning lamp circuit & put the light on, even though there is plenty material left on the pad. l have only seen this happen once though. Best get the brakes checked asap.

This is the symbol for the brakes.
You would know immediately if ur hand brake was still ON. That is not the problem.

IF there is an excalmation point in the middle of the circle. It' could be the 'brake fluid too low warning.'
If the curved lines on the sides r dotted lines, it means the front brake pads r too thin. You could have just 3/16 inches of brake pad left.
IF YOU HAVE ABS (Anti blocking brake system) then there is a small skidding auto inside the circle. It lights up when moving at 10 miles per hour. l do not think a 1996 306 had this feature?? The 406 had it.

IF YOUR PADS r thin, then ur brake fluid level is also automatically too low. Check both ideas.
