l have a hissing noise on the left side of the car every time l release the brake and press the acclerator to hard.

Start ur car, put it in neutral & open the hood.bonnet.
Do the same thing in ur driveway & LOOK & LISTEN yourself for the hissing. Ask a second person to step on brake, then rev the engine.

Be sure to observe the power brake vacuum hose. A thick hose that goes from the power brake booster drum (big round metal in front of the steering wheel, but under the bonnet). This is the only thing that has a vacuum, that could be ''hissing'' if there is a leak. A small leak might ''hiss'' & cause loss of break pedal strength, but a big leak, or loose hose, would stall ur engine completely.

However, on a right hand drive British car, is not the brake booster also on the right?
