l have a 51 Peugeot 307 that l have had for a year.Paid 2,500 for it last year.l have a 191.00 MOT last year for it, which involved suspension problems, CV joint, something to do with a ball joint, had to put new tyres on the front and it needs a new tyre on the front again due to a cut.
Road Tax up in January, MOT up next week.
I've been offered from a garage 1,000 for it, and it is off my hands tomorrow.
l do not know whether or not to take it.
The clutch is whining and needs replaced, so l think that is 200 quid or so, the driveshaft is insecure and rattles any time l turn a corner, it sounds as if something is scraping the bottom, it is got 62k miles and the timing belt will soon need done, the radio has stopped working, the horn works only when it wants to, there is a few scratches on it, it has an oil leak and probably more l do not know about.
So, do l keep it and spend the money over the next two months, or do l flog it tomorrow.
l do not have an idea of what things cost these days.
NEED YOUR ANSWERS TONIGHT!!!! PROBABLY TIME TO GET RID - THAT'S WHAT l WILL DO AND TRY TO BULLY MY WIFE INTO LETTING ME DRIVE HER MERC CLK A LITTLE MORE OFTEN. ITS BEEN A GOOD CAR, AND A WORKHORSE, BUT A GRANDS A GRAND IN ANYONES MONEY

Cut your losses and get rid. It needs a lot of work done on it and peugeot is dsont hold there money very well either so i'd say sell..You can buy a 2004 model with low mileage for under £2500 now.

If l were you. l would not sell it to a garage. That would be a panic reaction. You need a plan. There comes a point in time where u will have fixed the faults. Ok it will have cost u x amount of cash. But the mileage is low for a car of it is age, & more importantly u r becoming familiar with the car. If u buy another one u could end up with the same sorts of trouble as u r obviously not the world is best judge of mechanical matters. If u have given up on the car, get it through the next mot & sell it in the spring - privately. You will get a far better price (the mileage helps most). Look at the figures in Parkers Guide. Although l am a firm believer in 'better the devil u know' & l would get it all put right & get many more miles out of it.

Too bad u can not do these repair projects in ur driveway yourself.
The drive shaft replacement takes 5 hours, & it will probably cure ur oil leak at the same time. The scraping noise might be a wheel bearing. These r 59 euro (49 pounds?) & can be pressed in , old one pressed out, by a local garage in 30 minutes once the ''steering knuckle'' is brought into the garage. Clutch can be repaired for just the cost of the parts, (90 pounds??) no special tools required, except for a torque wrench (torque spanner?). Every car needs a new tyre now & then, even a BMW.
Ball joints do not last forever on any car. The Peugeot 'tie rod end = ball joint'' sells for less than 20 euro in Belgium = 16 pounds?
Timing belt? This is 4 hours work, & u need to replace 3 things; belt, tensioner pulley, & water pump. Even if the water pump is good now, replace it when the engine is already opened up for the timing belt. NOT a hard job, just time consuming. I've done it 5 times, 5 cars.
ALL CARS NEED REPAIR, is the point l want to make. Volkswagen parts seem to cost less on the average, but please do not feel depressed. Owning a car is an expense.
Your garage will give u 1000 for it, & it will be for sale tomorrow for 3000. AND SOMEONE will buy it. Sell it yourself if u want to make the profit.
Drive over to Belgium, sleep on my couch, & we will fix it all together, & l will be ur teacher. You pay for the parts. To keep costs down, We will buy our parts at De Grotte used parts / breaker. Largest Peugeot breaker in Europe, near the Belgian coast. My kids need to hear an English accent, ha ha.

Its 7 years old so of course things r going to go wrong with it, stick with it, u get another car it may be in worse condition, the things u have listed r very common & not overly expensive sorted out one at a time, when everythings sorted the car should run find for some time like mys doing now! As for the horn & radio, l would mention it to the mechanic when it gets work done i.e. cv joint/ timing belt change & an independant garage would probably charge nothing for sorting it out. Cud be loose connection/ fuse i.e something small/ inexpensive.
If u want a car thats problem free then stick with cars that dont need an mot i.e. less than 3 years old.
