my diesel wo not start if it is really cold, it attempts to just wo not actually kick in, glow plugs were changed about 6 months ago, l called the aa once and they started it immedialtly but would not tell me how, just that my glow plugs were too cold ???
i wait for the light to go off stating that the plugs have heated up etc.

any ideas ??
what is easy start/where can l get it from?
battery seemed to be working fine until yesterday, l tried for about 20 mins to get car started and then battery died !!called breakdown ppl who said it was to do with glow plugs being too cold, opened bonnet and said try now, l did and it was fine, lil tricky to restart when l left work tho but it started on second attempt with a lot of smoke.
tried this morning again for 20 mins and nothing, l can hear it try to start it just wo not quite start.
getting a new battery now
breakdown person had no tools just a touch, and was instant, wish he could of told me how he did it, how expensive would a new relay be ?
i have tried pumping the primer, does not help at all but l can hear tiny bubbles popping if that makes sense, tube is not clear but guessing it sounds like a leak somewhere

have had glow plugs and battery replaced so will try when l get home

heat the plugs a couple of more times , that may help, is your battery in good condition? if not when really cold will not turn over engine properly, carry a can of easy start for diesels, spray a bit into air box and the vapours will help ignite the diesel

plug it in

the aa probably put a jump cable directly onto the plugs themselves and left it on for longer but unless you know what your doing you shouldnt try this as you can melt the wiring! you need to check the glowplugs with a tester check the relay is operating for the correct length of time and check the voltage going to the plugs and the connections.sorry cant be more accurate but youve got to check it all out methodically

do not use easy start, it may well start ur engine but it also de-carbonise the pots & eventually ur engine will not start without it.
If ur glow plug system is working & fully functional, then u should look to u fuel supply ie cold diesel is thicker than warm diesel, r u leaving ur car in a particularly cold place, if so move it to a warmer place, fit a filter with a non-return valve in ur fuel line, to keep ur fuel line full & ready for when u turn the key.

Try bypassing the glow plug system by getting a piece of wire (insulated and of decent amps) and putting one end to the battery positive and the other to the copper rail that goes to the plugs.
This will tell you that they are working or not assuming your battery is ok.
Also check the fuel primer as they act as a non return valve for the fuel as well as a pump.pump the primer and if you have a clear pipe on the main pump see if there are any air bubbles in the system.

The XUD engine does sometime have problems starting if the battery is not in top condition. Try turning the engine over with the headlights on. If ur battery is in good condition the lights will not dim when u crank the starting motor. Replace the battery if in doubt, especially if it is over 5 years old.

When l had a 306 dturbo l had a similar problem & found that the easiest way to convince it to start is to turn ignition on, wait for the light to go out, then turn ignition off & start the procedure again.

You should also check the battery connections, give the terminals a good clean with something with degreasing properties (citric acid works, as in lime juice).

First of all the engine in ur vehicle is aTUD not an XUD.
Now lets get started on this engine first of all how do u realy no if ur glow plugs r OK have they been checked by somebody who knows what they r doing. If so then lets move on .
On this vehicle if it is a 1.5 engine there was a few issues with bad starting .
1 Glow plugs. 2 Wire BF13( Grey Heavy)AT the N/S chassis leg engine multiplug used to fester up & burn out so Peugeot did a short lead modification & picked up a fresh feed from the permanent heavy wire on the back of the Alternater this then goes to the live side of the glow plug relay bolted to the header tank. 3 The Valve seats became very soft making the valves sink into the cylinder head closing the valve clearance up which then made the valves open slightly when cold thus making the engine difficult to start when cold.So u have no choice but to Wang the engine over until it comes to life or u KILL the battery.(Remove rocker cover & check valve clearance also do a comp check when cold) if this is the problem then the cylinder head will require re shimming or maybe even complete over hoal.
GOOD LUCK
