Hi there, Im trying to find out how much it is costing me to run my car.l do a 50 mile trip once a fortnight for a night out & my friend wont stump up any petrol money. l pay £1.01 a litre so any rough ideas what this journey would cost me so that l can ask her to to contribute half as l also drive out of my way to pick her up.Thanks

up to a 1.6 its average amongst all manufacturers to get about 40 mpg above that is anyones guess

You can look up the fuel economy of the car on the internet, but that number depends upon ur driving habits & the condition of the car. Best to measure ur actual number.

When u get gas, fill it up & reset the trip odometer (or note the mileage number). Then next time u get gas, fill it up again, note the number of gallons or liters & note the number of miles or Km.

Divide the two to get miles per gallon, or killometers per liter, or miles per liter.

Now u have the fuel economy of the vehicle. Repeat for future refills to keep the number up to date.

Now to get the cost of a trip, divide distance (50 miles) by fuel economy in miles per liter, to get number of liters. Now just multiply by cost per liter.

Can get confusing due to ur mixture between metric & imperial units, but basically easy.

l would ask her for a fiver if l was in your shoes.
