lucky me, l was changing the stepper motor(iac) on my peugeot, an easy job :), but the new bolts seemed slightly bigger than the original ones so l was checking if it fits, while l was doing that l dropped it inside the mainfold, STUPID ME l installed the new IAC and started the engine, then l think the bolt was sucked from the mainfold somewhere, l tried to find it with some magnets but no luck, what should l do if l start the car it works a while than itrattles and stoppes. should l remove the air mainfold ? please help me . cheers
i just removed the mainfold but no sign of the bolt, could it be possible that it was sucked in to the exhaust and it is stuck in the cat or smth ? l mean anything would be better than to disassemble the engine for a bolt :(, is it possible to pass the valves and in to the cylinder and remain there? it was like 10mm long l think, oh and also if someone knows l have a leak under the transmission the colour is lighlty brown of the oil is it the transmission oil ? l think the engine one is darker

yes take off the manifold . you can cause serious damage if you leave the bolt in there

Hope ur nare still there. Get superglue and a strong magnet, like fridge magnet. Get something like a piece of wood dowel. Glue the magnet to the stick and go fishing.

l did the same thing, with a washer, on a 1968 Fiat 850.
l believe ur bolt has passed from the manifold area, THROUGH a valve? could it be that small????
The rattling u r hearing is the bolt going up & down inside the cylinder. Soon, it is exploded by the petrol explosion & it becomes imbedded in the softer aluminium piston head. As pieces of it break off, they scratch the cylinder walls, or get trapped at the side of the piston. You will burn oil that seeps upwards.
step 1: remove the intake manifold & hope l am wrong, find ur bolt.
step 2: remove the head, & check for piston head damage, valve or valve seat damage, & find remaining bolt pieces.
step 3: replace head gasket, & all related things.

YES, the gearbox / transmission oil is light brown, & often leaks out around the inboard driveshaft ends. There is a feather-thin rubber seal there that does not last forever.
The engine oil is very black after a month of use, regardless of colour when new.
IF ur bolt was 10mm long, how big was the bolt head? The intake & exhaust valves only open a few millimeters l THINK?? but there is indeed a lot of suction at that point. NO WAY ur bolt was sucked directly into the exhaust or catalytic converter. After the INTAKE manifold, comes the cylinder, then ur bolt would have to shoot upwards, thru the exhaust valve (no way) to reach the exhaust manifold. sorry.
