We have a peugeot 206 2000-X.
Yesterday whilst my wife was driving it, all the dash lights suddenly came on as when you first insert the key, but they were all flashing and the odometer changed from themileage to flashing STOP, and the steering appeared to go completely, not just the power steering, the whole steering, the wheel would not budge at all, but the engine still ran ok.
She stopped and switched off, but when restarted it was ok again and has been ok since, but she is very wary about driving it now.

We dont know what this is, l have been googling variations of what l just typed and cant find anything similar on any sites?

Does anyone know what this fault is from???

When you stall some lights may light up on the dash, but they do not flash quickly on and off and the odometer does change to a flashing 'STOP'!

YES, she said the engine did still keep running and she drove on a few yards before stopping but was unable to steer and just stopped in the middle of the road, and it idled for a few seconds before she turned off the engine.

NO it wasnt only the power steering as l previously already stated,l asked her to explain what happened to the steering and her reply was
''it wasnt like when you try to turn the wheel without the engine on, the wheel literally would not move at all, as if the steering lock was on''

After a catastrophic failure like that l would not drive the car. Call a garage.

are you sure the engine was still running,it sounds like the engine cut out,you will loose power steering and its hard to turn the wheel.

The steering cannot stop, you mean the power steering stopped working ! If this happens you just have to turn the wheel harder.

Thats Women for you ( just humor her ), but l can assure you steering would not lock up like the steering lock. because unless you remove the Key it is impossible for that to happen.
If your car has electric power steering it could be that the pump is faulty. l have seen that happen on 307's

the only way to find out for sure is to have a diagnostics check done & the fault should show up on the computer, l have a 206 & had an intermittent fault same thing all the lights coming on & this was due to the engine cutting out, a faulty coil pack was found to be the problem..as for the steering do not really know could have felt heavy if the engine had cut out but as u say the engine was still running then everything came back to normal...a diagnostics check will at least give u something to go on.
