depends what year it is l have a 2002 206 two litre diesel and l love it, it really goes! it hasnt broken much just general things like seals and pipes which perish over time on any car, luckily l work in a garage so its no problem for me to fix! parts wise its not to bad, reasonable prices, decent on tax, insurance and fuel! but it is french!

Sorry to say but they are not the best at all. They're plagued with electrical faults. You'd be better with a corsa/fiesta/yaris, even a clio would be better. Citroen dont seem to suffer quite as badly as peugeot which is strange as they share so many components. The more recent diesel 206s are a hell of a lot better, but i'd recommend you stay away from petrol models.

Yes, a popular car, but not the most reliable. The first answer amuses me - at six years old, l would not 'expect' a car to need 'pipes & seals' as a matter of course. My last old BMW was 15 years old, & l had not spent anything on it in four years other than a pair of tyres, fuel & MOTs, all of which it passed with no work needed apart from one bulb. My current Nissan 4x4 is 12 years old, is not quite so rattle - free, but has been utterly reliable. The 206 is a pretty little thing, but u will get far more reliability & better build quality from a Japanese or German car.

l strongly recommend you not to buy that rubbish!! try with a civic or similar japanese car.

Not a good car at all. If you are on here much you will see a lot of Qs about them going wrong.

Would go for something else if l were you.
l have a 1999 Glx 206, l bought it with approx 40,000 miles.
There is (was) a common fault on the older versions of this car (not sure the modern ones) - engine cutting out - this happened at the worst moments, such as entering roundabouts etc & very nearly got me hurt several times.
Luckily l bought it with a warranty & there was a fair cost to solve this problem, including diagnostics etc (some peoples costs have been relatively huge for such a car) - which was replacing the idle control valve, although some have even replaced the ECU to correct this issue & that is big bucks!
Once this problem was solved it has run ok, albeit at now 82,000 miles it is ready for the scrap yard (or possibly another year round london commuting lol.)
The car itself, despite what others have said is dissapointingly slow, lacking throttle response, & any real torque to get u moving, no surprise though given the engine power really (cant imagine the modern ones r that much quicker,) On the plus size it is good on fuel economy. again, no surprise with the small engine.
Handling wise it can be a good laugh to hoon round the B roads but lacks grip & has understeer problems - no complaints around town though as its small & therefore easy to park, negotiate the idiot masses etc.
Parts r very expensive through Peugeot sources compared to other suppliers - for example l recently had to replace a wing mirror which some plonker knocked off & the Peugeot cost would have been over £150 excluding labour - l picked up a replacement part on ebay for less than £30 & fitted it myself within 10 mins.
Save ur money & go for something else - if u r considering to buy new, for the equivalent value u could get a very nice 2nd hand car indeed.

l have a 2001 Peugeot 206 2.0l diesel & l love it. l havent had any problem with it either. My car has now done 106k with service history & is still going strong. My dads car is a 406 with the same engine & his has now done 184k & it still going well. l dont know about the petrol engines as l have never owned a petrol peugeot but the diesels r very good. l have the DTurbo model which is a standard car & engine but has a more sporty feel, different trim, bumper, lights, seats etc.
